All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural and Rural Labourers on Base 1986-87-100 – January, 2011

1. The All-India consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base:1986-87 – 100)for January, 2011 increased by 8 points each to stand at 589 (Five hundred and eighty nine) points for Agricultural Labourers and 588 (Five hundred and eighty eight) points for Rural Labourers.

2. The rise/fall in index varied from State to State. In case of Agricultural Labourers, it recorded an increase between 2 to 15 points in 17 States and a decrease between 1 to 5 points in 3 States. Haryana with 654 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 492 points stood at the bottom.

3. In case of Rural Labourers, it recorded an increase between 3 to 15 points in 17 States and a decrease between 1 to 4 points in 3 States. Haryana with 648 points topped the index table whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 510 points stood at the bottom.

4. The Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers in respect of Andhra Pradesh State registered the maximum increase of 15 points each mainly due to increase in the prices of jowar, ragi, groundnut oil, goat meat, milk, onion, chillies dry, tamarind and anacin. On the other hand, the Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers in respect of Meghalaya State recorded the highest decrease of 5 and 4 points respectively mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, chillies green and vegetables and fruits.

5. Point to point rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL increased from 7.99% and 8.01% in December, 2010 to 8.67% and 8.69% in January, 2011. Inflation based on food index of CPI-AL and CPI-RL are 7.54% and 7.53% respectively in January, 2011.
