Chief Justices of three High Courts were on 22 December 2012 elevated
as judges of the Supreme Court of India, increasing the strength of the
apex court to 28.Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Justice M Yusuf
Eqbal, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Justice Venkategowda and Chief
Justice of Karnataka High Court Justice Vikramjit Sen were appointed as
judges of the Supreme Court, in that order of seniority.
The appointment of judges will come into effect from the date they
assume charge of their respective office. At present, including the
Chief Justice of India, the Supreme Court has 25 judges against the
sanctioned strength of 31.
