The
Second Indian Biodiversity Congress (IBC 2012) is being organised at
Bengaluru on December 9-12, with the focal theme “Biodiversity of the Western Ghats-
Challenges and Strategies for Conservation and Sustainable Management”.
Now the Western Ghats has been declared as a Natural World Heritage by
UNESCO, as areas representing pre-eminent spots of biodiversity that
must be identified, protected and conserved by a global community. IBC
will discuss the biodiversity heritage and the challenges and strategies
to conserve this area as a natural heritage.
The first Indian Biodiversity Congress (IBC 2010) was organised under
the initiative of Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action
(CISSA), with support from Navdanya (New Delhi), University of Kerala
and Kerala State Biodiversity Board. The first IBC was attended by about
750 delegates from the 25 states of India and the programme included
Indian Biodiversity Expo, Capacity Building Workshops, National Seminar,
Civil Society Meet, Student’s Conclave, National Photography Exhibition
and Documentary Film Festival on Biodiversity.
Hope such congresses actually help save the losing biodiversity of the country.
