Sunil Gavaskar was appointed as the interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by the Supreme Court on 28 March 2014. He was appointed as acting president of BCCI to discharge the functions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014.
Sunil Gavaskar replaced the present BCCI chief N Srinivasan. The Supreme Court also directed administrative responsibilities of the BCCI board to the BCCI vice-president Shivlal Yadav, former off-spinner of Indian cricket team.
Former BCCI chief N Srinivasan was removed by the Supreme Court on the ground that his position as the Chairman of BCCI may interfere with the investigations going into the alleged involvement of his sons-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan. Gurunath Meiyappan was found to be involved in betting by the Mudgal Committee report on IPL spot fixing during IPL-6 held in 2013.
