Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports on 5 March 2014 inaugurated the Sports Authority of India National Cycling Academy (SAI NCA) at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. The academy with complete back-up facilities has been set up following the decision taken in the 42nd meeting of the Governing Body of SAI.
The finances of the academy will be maintained by Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports through Sports Authority of India. The Academy has been launched with a long-term perspective of making an Academy which will be financially independent and a self-sustaining venture.
Apart from the National Cycling Academy, on 5 March 2015, the Youth Affairs and Sports Minister also launched a project to create swimming pools at three stadiums in the capital, namely
• Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (JNS)
• Indira Gandhi Sports Complex (IGSC)
• Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range
The estimated cost for creating the swimming pools is 907.50 lakh rupees. Jitendra Singh also launched a Community Connect Scheme to include sports and recreational facilities in JNS, IGSC, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Complex.
