New Schemes for Minorities

The Government has informed the Rajya Sabha that the Ministry of Minority Affairs had launched three new schemes during 2009-10. The “Scheme for Computerization of the records of State Wakf Boards” was launched in December, 2009. The total funds allocated for the Scheme during 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 were Rs.10.00 crore, Rs.13.00 crore and Rs. 5.00 Crore respectively. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Shri Vincent H. Pala, Minister of State for Minority Affairs informed the House that during the year 2009-10, the “Scheme of National Fellowship for Minority Community Students” to be implemented by University Grants Commission was also launched. In the years 2009-10 and 2010-11, Rs. 14.90 crore and Rs. 29.98 crore respectively, were released to University Grants Commission.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs had also launched a scheme for Leadership Development of Minority Women in January 2010 with an outlay of Rs.8 crore for 2009-2010 and Rs.15 crore for 2010-2011.This is a demand driven scheme without State-wise allocation. However, the scheme could not be implemented.
