The refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation in Kochi and HLL Lifecare Limited in Thiruvananthapuram have won the awards instituted by the State government for excellence in pollution control among very large and large industries respectively.
First places in pollution control have been taken by MRF Limited, Kottayam, and Philips Carbon Black Limited, Ernakulam.
Cochin Minerals and Rutiles Limited, Ernakulam, and Sud-Chemie India Private Limited, Ernakulam, shared the excellence awards for medium industries. Milma's Palakkad dairy and Kannur dairy claimed the first places for A and B categories of medium industries based on capital investment.
The excellence award for small industries went to Victory Granite Metals, Thrissur, and the first place to Devi Sands Private Limited, Wayanad. Among the hotels, Spice Village, Thekkady, emerged the topper.
Attingal municipality won the first place for pollution control among municipalities. The second place is shared by Chalakkudy and Irinjalakuda municipalities.
Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences Limited, Kozhikode, bagged the excellence award for private hospitals with more than 200 beds. EMS Memorial Cooperative Hospital and Research Centre, Perinthalmanna, came first. Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences Limited, Kottackal, earned the first place among hospitals with 100 to 200 beds. Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery, won the first place for hospitals with less than 100 beds. District Hospital, Palakkad, came first among government hospitals. The first place for community or public health centres went to Community Health Centre, Konni.
Announcing the awards here on Friday, Health Minister Adoor Prakash said all winners would get trophy and certificates. Besides, institutions placed first, second, and third would get cash prizes. The awards and prizes would be presented at a function to be held in Kochi on June 5, the World Environment Day.
