The National Film Festival of National Award winning films of 2010 was inaugurated June 17 at Siri Fort Auditorium by Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting, Shri Choudhury Mohan Jatua.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Jatua said today, the entire country was appreciative of the National Film Awards for 2010, the results of the Awards had once again brought out the strengths of India’s regional cinema, and proved that big budgets were not the index for making quality films. Complimenting the students of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata who won awards this year, Shri Jatua said the achievements of Anusha Nanda Kumar, Vipin Vijay and Snehal R. Nair, students of the institute were commendable.
Elaborating further, the Minister said, Directorate of Film Festival had taken the lead both in promoting non-mainstream, regional cinema across the country specially in geographical regions beyond the metropolis. Complimenting the Directorate, Shri Jatua said it had done a commendable job in taking Indian Panorama films to Shillong & Kohima in the North East, to Andaman & Nicobar Islands and to Shimla, Bhopal and Kolhapur. This initiative had facilitated the spirit of National Integration across the country through the medium of cinema.
The Minister further added, that another major achievement of the Directorate of Film Festivals related to the clearing of the backlog of National Film Awards by organizing three National Awards in a record time of 12 months, and thereby updating the Awards calendar. This initiative had enabled the awards to become more contemporary.
The representatives of the opening films “Pistulya” and “Dabangg” were also present on the occasion. A total of forty films selected for the National Film Awards 2010 shall be screened at the festival which will conclude its final screening on 16th July 2011. The films shall be screened in Auditorium II of Siri Fort.
