R Lakshmipathy, the publisher of Tamil daily Dinamalar, was elected as
the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Press Trust of India (PTI) on
24 September 2012 after the company's Annual General Meeting (AGM). Lakshmipathy,
has served as PTI Chairman twice earlier and is also a member of press
council. He is succeeding M P Veerendrakumar, Chairman and Managing
Director of Mathrubhoomi group of newspapers.Alomg with him K N Shanth Kumar of Deccan Herald was also elected as the Vice Chairman of the Board.

N Shanth Kumar is a director of The Printers (Mysore) Private Limited,
publishers of “Deccan Herald,“Prajavani,” “Sudha” and “Mayura.” He
earlier was the president of the Audit Bureau of Circulations which
verifies circulation data published by newspapers and periodicals. Press
Trust of India (PTI) is India’s premier and largest news agency, which
employs more than 400 journalists and 500 stringers to cover almost
every district and small town in India. On an average it puts out more
than 2,000 stories and 200 photographs a day which caters the needs of
the diverse subscribers, including the mainstream media, the specialised
presses, research groups, companies and Government and non-governmental
organisations.
