Sri Lanka won its maiden ICC Twenty20 World Cup title

Sri Lanka won the ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2014 title after defeating India by six wickets in the final match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur, Dhaka on 6th April. This is the maiden trophy of Sri Lanka of T20 tournament and this victory has also helped the Lankan team to end its inexplicable losing streak in the final matches of World Cup. India become the first cricket team to hold all the three major limited over titles, as it had won the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the Champion trophy in 2013. Earlier, Sri Lanka last won the first world title in the World Cup (50-over tournament) in 1996. It also lost the final matches of the two world cups (50-over) in 2007 and 2011. In 2009 and 2012 also it remained the runners-up in World Twenty20 events.
