An IPS officer of the 1978 batch from UP cadre, Dilip Trivedi was on Friday named the CRPF chief. He is currently serving as special DG of the BSF.
The post of the director-general of the CRPF, country's largest paramilitary force, fell vacant after Pranay Sahay retired on July 31.
National Security Guard Chief Arvind Ranjan was given the additional charge of the acting DG of the CRPF till the new chief was appointed.
As the chief of the 3,00,000-strong CRPF, Trivedi has his job cut out. The CRPF is the nodal agency of the country's anti-Maoist operations.
Besides, the precarious security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, the CRPF would also have to focus on this sector where it is engaged in counter-insurgency operations, securing VIPs and complementing the state police in maintaining law and order.
