Indian Social activist Arvind Kejriwal on 6 October 2012 launched a Bijli-Paani Satyagraha
in New Delhi to protest against inflated power and water bills and hike
in tariffs by restoring electricity connection to the household of a
labourer which was disconnected for non-payment of bills.
The
protest was launched at Tigri Colony in New Delhi where Kejriwal and his
supporters restored the power connection of the labourer. The labourer
claimed that he got a bill for Rs 15000 last month and connection
disconnected as he could not pay it.
Arvind Kejriwal told the masses to Stop paying electricity and water bills till Delhi government withdraws tariff hikes.
Arvind
Kejriwal had given ultiamtum to the Delhi government that the
government must roll back the hike before November three or they will
protest again on November 4 and gherao Sheila Dikshit's house he had
challenged the government to try to cut the electricity of anyone in
Delhi.
In response to Arvind Kejriwal effort People in 62
assemblies and 114 wards in Delhi burnt their electricity bills to
protest against the steep hike in electricity tariff.
There is every likelihood that today's principled person may become corrupt tomorrow. The party workers who intends to contest election, must be thoroughly probed by the internal Lokpal or by other body solely to be constituted for the purpose. It would be most desirable if properties during the tenure of all elected MLAs and MPs are published annually in newspapers and given on website for feedback to masses.
