India Economic Summit to focus on infrastructure

The three-day India Economic Summit, organised by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum (WEF), beginning November 14 here, will witness the assembly of over 700 top national and international corporate honchos along with stalwarts of the UPA-II regime and focus on the Indian economy and deal with issues like infrastructure, inclusive growth and protectionism.

The CEOs from various parts of the world will deliberate on the strides made by the Indian economy, the bottlenecks and the solutions required to keep the economic pot boiling.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P. Chidambaram and Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma will be among the political leaders who will be interacting with the captains of the Indian and global industry.

Others on the political and government side of the summit would include Road and Transport Minister Kamal Nath, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotirditya Scindia and Minister of State for Telecom, Sachin Pilot.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda would also attend a session on agricultural reforms. “This conference will focus on networking and learning and also on the implementation process of the new reforms being unleashed in the Indian economy. This will provide a road from Delhi to Davos to take the country on a new economic trajectory,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of CII, which is a partner of the WEF.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, State Bank of India Chairman O. P. Bhatt, ICICI Bank Managing Director and CEO Chanda Kochhar and Bharti Enterprises Chairman and Group CEO Sunil Bharti Mittal will be among the leading CEOs participating in the annual event which has been organised at New Delhi for the past 25 years.
