Top 38 companies that achieved consistent reduction in energy consumption over the last three years were honoured by Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, at a national award distribution function here on Thursday. Participating in the Confederation of Indian Industry's 11{+t}{+h} National Award for Excellence in Energy Management for 2010, Mr. Mathur said that the challenge before them was how to convert energy efficiency as a board room issue to involve top management and to how to create incentive environment to force these companies to maintain energy efficiency level on a continuous basis and reduce energy consumption on year-on-year basis. L.S. Ganapati, Chairman, National Award for Excellence in Energy Management for 2010, said that these 38 short listed companies achieved an annual recurring savings of Rs.914 crore in the past three years, equivalent to 96 MW by implementing 2,467 projects. “We received overwhelming response this year. It is a healthy and welcome sign,” he said. Naushad Forbes, Chairman, Energy Efficiency Summit 2010, said that companies should come forward to reduce energy consumption at least by 20 per cent in the first few years and follow it by reducing another five per cent every year.
