National Data Network

Sachin Pilot, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology informed Lok Sabha today in written reply to a question that with the infusion of Information Technology (IT) accessibility, reliability and efficiency in delivery of public services can be enhanced. Similarly IT can improve productivity and cost efficiency to a large extent. Accordingly all sectors of economy in the country are leveraging IT. National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been working for creation of Data Communication Network and development of e-governance applications for the government sector. NIC has created a national level network called NICNET which has reach upto districts level and is used for the government only.
